ACR was founded in 1999 as a conventional cultural resource management firm. In 2009, ACR completed the cultural resource compliance work for a Military Munitions Response Program (MMRP) project and saw a need for archeologists to be able to work inside the exclusion zone during excavations of potentially hazardous military munitions. ACR began putting its archeologists through Unexploded Ordnance (UXO) Technician Level 1 training in the early spring of 2010. ACR coined the term UXO Archeology, and in early 2012, ACR formalized its UXO Archeology division. ACR is the vanguard in this specialized industry and is currently the only private firm in the US with cross-trained employees working as both qualified archeologists and UXO technicians.
